So I’ve been working with the basketball retailer Throwback since 2023, shooting product and creating content. I’ve been photographing sneakers for many years now and working with Throwback has allowed me to further develop my style with shooting sneakers, given the limited resources in equipment and space on-location. For context, I came from a job with a huge studio space and access to loads of different studio equipment from lighting to backdrops whereas at Throwback I was limited to a very small space, one singular working strobe, a white paper backdrop and an odd few rolls of coloured vinyl (used for another purpose). So being resourceful and strategic with creating many different styles of photos became it’s own interesting challenge, as I am not one to settle on subpar photos. Ever since COVID times, I’ve also started story-telling more with my sneaker photos which I’ve incorporated with some of the photos for Throwback (my sneaker instagram @jnywkz).
