eCommerce Fashion Photography of Nike Tech Fleece apparel collection (above) & Detailed Product Photography of Nike Air Jordan 11s (below) for JD Sports Australia

I’ve been shooting eCommerce fashion and product photography for the past 10 years, which I am now currently working as a fulltime in-house photographer for a fast fashion company in Sydney, Australia. Although shooting the likes of campaigns, social and marketing shoots is fun, the major part of my role is eCommerce photography.

It is an overlooked yet very important aspect for a business to understand that great images will help sell product. What I believe separates standard eCommerce photography to amazing eCommerce photography is in the details, how the product or the specific features are being represented. Being able to understand not only the product but the end consumer helps to ensure better eCommerce photography, notably in product.

Let me elevate you’re products with amazing eCommerce photography! If you’re interested in getting your products shot for your eCommerce needs, lets talk!

“What is eCommerce Photography?”. Well, it is the visual representation of a product provider by a seller to their customers through an online presence, whether it be eBay, Amazon, Etsy or their own eCommerce platform/webstore, usually portraying the product in its best manor usually without any additional visual clutter. Generally images are presented on a white or a light background though this may differ between different retailers/clients and product types.

eCommerce photography can be divided into different categories, each for its own purpose and product. The types that I usually shoot/provide are on-talent fashion eCommerce photography, apparel flat lays and standard eCommerce product photography. Shooting fashion apparel and accessories on-talent or on-body is a great way to portray the fashion piece online as it gives the customer a visual aid as to how the piece could be worn. Using the right model for the right product is also key as it helps sell the authenticity of the product as to how it sits on someone and if the model would actually wear such a piece. Apparel Flat Lays are images of just the clothes itself as if it was layed flay on the ground (hence flat lay). Apparel can also be shot on mannequin/ghost mannequin to give a more 3D and worn look without having or paying for a model. Product photography is shots of other styles of product, usually also shot against a white background and lets the product do all the talking.
